Tamara, Queen of the Nile (1986)

Lime Jello cover.jpg

The lyrics to this song, about the secret double life of a first-grade teacher, are by Ernst Muller.  The song was originally included in the Off-Broadway revue “Professionally Speaking,” co-written by Frederic Block, Ernst Muller, and Peter Winkler.

For many years, “Tamara” has been featured in the repertory of Joan Morris and William Bolcom.   The recording included here is from their out-of-print RCA album, “Lime Jello, an American Cabaret.” Another rendition is available on the album “Serious Fun” by Jody Karin Applebaum and Marc-Andre Hamelin.
